One of Dubai’s most iconic buildings, the Museum of the Future (MOTF) boasts a location on the city’s most popular avenue, Sheikh Zayed Road. Founded by the Dubai Future Foundation and launched on 22 February 2022, the museum explores how society could evolve in the coming decades through science and technology.
Billed as a “living museum,” it combines traditional exhibition elements with immersive theatre and themed attractions to help visitors grasp the limitless possibilities of the future. Continuing a global intellectual movement, it also houses the headquarters of the “Great Arab Minds” initiative, which aims to highlight 1,000 Saudi talents in various fields.
Museum of the Future Design and Architecture
Built as an asymmetrical torus clad in steel and glass, the Museum of the Future was recognized by National Geographic as one of the 14 most beautiful museums in the world. It is the brainchild of architect Shaun Killa, who wanted his structure to represent Dubai’s vision of the future.
The museum’s exterior structure is striking, with elements of Arabic calligraphy that double as windows. Designed by local artist Mattar bin Lahej, it features verses of poetry by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Among the three quotes wrapping the façade, one translates to: “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, think it and make it happen. It is not something to wait for you, but rather to create.” »
What to expect at the Museum of the Future
A gateway to what the world will look like in 50 years, this unique project will contribute to a better humanity and a stronger global economy by demonstrating how next-generation solutions – using artificial intelligence and augmented reality – can improve our lives.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience groundbreaking technologies. Each floor of the museum has been designed as a full-fledged, interactive movie set, hosted by expert storytellers, technologists and visionary artists. Topics include the future of space travel and life, climate change and ecology, and wellness, health and spirituality. And in addition to the groundbreaking innovations on display, you will be able to participate in special workshops and discussions led by some of the world’s greatest minds.
Children aged 3 to 10 can enjoy an open-ended experience in the Future Heroes Zone, a space designed to encourage little ones to reach their full potential. Visitors can also head to the second-floor observation deck – right in the heart of the museum’s ‘void’ – where they can enjoy the sights of the structure’s interior façade and breathtaking views of Dubai’s vibrant urban centre.
Tickets, which can be purchased on the official website, are priced at AED 145. Children under three, people with disabilities and Emirati seniors are free to enter.
